For Sale: Bird Cage for large Parrot (Passaic county, NJ)

Date: 2011-06-27

Reply to: ggutowski1@gmail.com

For sale: large bird cage for 1 or 2 birds. I purchased this cage 2 years ago. Its been empty for the last year or so.

I have steam cleaned and sanitized the cage.
The only notable thing about its otherwise flawless condition is two of the plastic casters on the bottom of the cage are broken.
The cage comes with a divider which splits it into two cages with seperate food, water, and access to the animal.
The bottom of the cage features a single piece removable grating as well as a single piece removable tray.
The larger section of the cage has a roof that opens with acess to a "roof top" play area, that also features food and water bowls as well as a perch and place to hang some toys. there are a bunch of doors for each side of the cage. I used the cage for a single bird, so the middle divider was not used. Any additional questions please email me. I paid over 500.00 for the cage and the first 400.00 OBO will take it. Within a reasonable distance, 20mi, I will deliver the cage.

Parrot Play Stand

Bird owners know that parrots love to play! Bird play stands provide hours of entertainment and will give your bird the feeling of freedom and social interaction outside of his or her cage. Whether a freestanding parrot play stand or a tabletop play stand, they can easily be moved from room to room providing your bird with a welcome change of scenery.
Having a separate parrot playstand from your bird's every day cage is important for your bird's well being.  Parrot playstands make your bird happier and more engaged, thus reducing many of the unwanted bird behaviors.
Parrot Playstand Wood
If you are looking for a parrot playstand made from wood, look no further.  Americas Pet Store carries a large range of wooden parrot play stands made from a variety of natural woods including the ever popular manzanita tree parrot playstands. In addition to parrot playstands made from manzanita trees we also carry parrot stands made from Java wood (sometimes called Coffee wood) such as the line of IslandWood parrot trees.  All natural wood parrot playstands feature natural limb shapes, which are great for your bird’s feet.  Americas Pet Store also carries the Prevue Hendryx line of colorful solid hardwood table top bird play stands.  Each comes with a laminated top for easy cleaning and is certified 100% safe for your bird.
Plastic Parrot PlayStands
The great thing about plastic parrot play stands is that they are typically easy to clean, light weight and less expensive than their wooden or iron counterparts.  You can select from a large variety of styles and sizes of plastic bird playstands including a plastic table top parrot play stand, a plastic raised parrot playstand, and even a full length parrot playstand for the largest Macaws.  The only type of plastic parrot playstand that you should consider are those that have grooved or ribbed perches.  If the plastic perch is not ribbed or grooved in some way your parrot will slip on the perch or will get sore feet from holding the smooth surface.  Americas Pet Store only carries plastic bird play stands with grooved or ribbed surfaces.
Metal Parrot Playstands
Americas Pet Store carries stainless steel playstands and wrought iron play stands in a variety of colors and styles to make both you and your bird happy.  Many play stands have feeding and water cups for extended play time.  Make sure to choose a playstand that will correctly fit the size of bird you own.  So it is important to evaluate the diameter of the perches prior to purchases to ensure you have selected the proper size parrot playstand.

Playtop Bird Cages

Play top bird cages give your bird a chance to perch and play outside of the cage. Birds love to play and experts say it’s essential for their emotional health.

Playtop bird cages are popular because people want their pets to be happy and well adjusted. Birds absolutely need time out of their cage every day. Playtop bird cages will allow your pet to perch or play on the cages highest point where they can enjoy a "bird's eye view."

Play top bird cages are among the most popular styles because people want their pets to be happy and well adjusted. Most birds absolutely need time out of their cage every day. Play top bird cages will allow your pet to perch or play on the cages highest point, which they will naturally gravitate to. Instinctively, parrots and other birds feel secure in high spots in your home, just as they do in the wild.

Play top bird cages come in a variety of styles. Avian Adventures has a clever design in their lift-off play top bird cages. Just lift off the play top and set it on a table in another room. The idea (and it’s a good one) is to provide your bird a different environment to play in, to keep things fresh and interesting for your pet.

Remember, a bored bird is apt to cause trouble if they are forced to come up with their own ideas for fun things to do.

When it comes to making a selection among play top bird cages, your first considerations are the same as with any other purchase of a bird cage: you’ll want a big enough cage for the breed and size of your bird; safe sturdy construction; and a guarantee that it’s made with non-toxic, bird-safe materials. After that, it’s all about play time!

Travel Bird Cages

Travel bird cages are ideal for vet visits, short vacations, emergency evacuations and for moving from one residence to another.
Travel bird cages are designed to offer safe, temporary housing. Avian vet visits; overnight or weekend travel; changing residence; and emergency evacuations are ideal situations for travel bird cages.

America's Pet Store carries quite a few quality travel bird cages. Check out our selection of crystal clear acrylic travel bird carriers, folding bird cages and collapsible bird cages made out of wrought iron steel that set up and breakdown quickly and easily.

African Grey Parrot

The African Grey Parrot (Psittacus erithacus) been donned with two nicknames. The first is "The perfect mix of brains and beauty," and the second one is "The Cadillac of Parrots." One reason African Grey Parrots have these nicknames is because of their ability to talk. They far exceed the talking capabilities of other parrots.
African greys are some of the smartest animals on the planet, and certainly the smartest species of bird. While of course its difficult to be a good judge of "animal intelligence" (and I might be a bit biased), the scientific community has little protests against these claims.
Speaking words is not the only talent of the this amazing parrot. They are also known for being able to imitate things like phones, microwave ovens, answering machines, other birds, and chain saws.

African Grey, as their name suggests, originate from Africa. This is unusual, as Africa does not have many species of parrots. Two subspecies exist: The Congo African Grey and the Timneh African Grey. The Congo population is larger, has a black beak, and bright red tail; the Timneh population is smaller, has a brown beak, and a lighter maroon tail. They are essentially the same in any other way, and are merely separated by location. Pepper is a Congo African Grey, and a large one at that.
Their high intelligence is believed to have evolved as a result of cooperative feeding on the ground in Africa, as well as using problem solving skills and tools to survive when food sources ran low.

Blue and Gold Macaw

Ara ararauna
Blue and Gold Macaws are one of the larger species of Macaw and can grow to about 86cm in length.
This sort is one of
the best talkers
of all macaws.
As well as their striking blue and gold colouring these Macaws have tiny feather tracts on their faces, which is unique to each bird, just like a human finger-print.
Blue and golds have an extensive
range throughout most of tropical South America
from eastern Panama till Ecuador, Eastern Peru,
Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil.
They inhabit forests of many types and usually
fly in pairs or small family groups.
They have a length of about 20-36 inches and is self-evident blue and yellow colored.
The incubation is about +/- 25 days and they lay between 2 and 3 eggs.
Blue and Gold Macaws are found in central northern regions of South America.
They are probably one of the most kept macaws in captivity.
They are considered an endangered species due to the destruction of the rainforests and capturing of them for the illegal pet trade. In the wild the Macaws are found in pairs and small family groups. They like to fly close together with their wingtips almost touching.

Paradise Parrot

Beautiful Parrot, Scarlet-shouldered Parrot, Anthill Parrot, Soldier Parrot.

Parrots are unique in the way that they are the only bird (other than ‘Big Bird’ from Sesame Street) that can use their feet like we use our hands; they pull apart their food and feed themselves using their claws, which they manicure painstakingly. All parrots use their beaks for climbing.
Parrots are herbivores, feeding primarily on seed and fruit. They are also monogamous, staying with a single mate for their entire lifetimes, and, apart from the few which migrate in search of food, (nectar feeders) they tend to be sedentary, that is, to stay in a single area all their lives, and use the same nesting place each breeding season.
Medium sized distinctly coloured parrot which resembles the Hooded and Golden Shouldered Parrot to some extent. The sexes of this species are fairly similar in plumage details. The throat, sides of neck and breast is green. The rest of the underparts are red. The crown is black with a red band on the forehead. Wings brown-black with distinct red patches. An area of the same colour extends from the belly to the base of the tail. The female differs from the male in that she is much paler in colour. There are no records for immature birds.

Very little is known about the Paradise Parrot and no substantiated discovery has been recorded since about 1927, despite many searches.

The Paradise Parrot was usually encountered in pairs or small parties, foraging almost entirely on the ground. It was said to be quite tame and approachable and most active in the early morning and late afternoon.
Length: 270-300mm.

other areas will have to add gas fee.

benefits:

Pets are more comfortable when they remain at home in familiar surroundings and maintain their regular feeding and pottying schedule. Being kenneled can be very stressful. Many pet owners realize this and will pay a pet sitter for the wellbeing of their animals. Since the pet sitter comes to the home several times a day, the home is less vulnerable to break-ins because it looks "lived in." When there are multiple pets in the home, pet sitter charges can actually be less expensive than a kennel.

Cockatiel babies - Yeast problems

According to the vets I've talked to, about 80% of babies who are sick cockatiel have some degree of yeast, bacteria or a problem with both. These statistics are high, however I have found that it can be dramatically reduced to almost nil. Having raised several thousand cockatiel babies since 1994, I discovered some of the contributing causes of yeast infection in my herd and I would like to share my observations and solutions to tackle this problem without being charged the lives of many babies.

The yeast is growing and the # 1 cause digestive problems resulting in the death of baby cockatiels. Yeast has also been the main reason many breeders and fans out of cockatiels breeding, as it was difficult to deal with frustration and anguish of losing babies.

I have no answers about why the cockatiel chicks tend to be more prone than other species of yeast. Some speculation has occurred regarding the differences in size and shape of a crop of cockatoos in comparison with other species of chicken as a contributing factor. But cockatiel species such as chickens are more susceptible to stress and changing conditions, such as management, diet, climate, bonding (bonded against slavery), the environment nestbox, etc "stress "can lead to yeast as a" major "problem, which is followed quickly with a" secondary "bacterial infection, if the yeast is not recognized and corrected. Once the causes of stress for the chick are resolved, cockatiel chicks are very hardy and resistant to infection by fungi and bacteria.

What is yeast?
The following is an explanation to better understand what is already in the body" why ", is not harmful. I'm using the yeast of the word but often also hear called yeast infection or candidiasis.

Yeast, bacteria, as they are inside and all live animals. It is in us and around us. The body has learned to cope / adapt to it, and the immune system has developed a system of defense and amour to what is exposed on a daily basis, both internally and externally. The yeast organism is considered a normal environment and normal inhabitant of the digestive tract of birds. In most birds medical reference books listed in yeast fungal diseases. The causative agent is Candida albicans, an opportunistic yeast that can cause a variety of problems associated with avian digestive tract, crop in adults, and disorders of crops with babies. In most cases, a bird can live a lifetime without causing a yeast resident life-threatening problem.

When situations present a form of stress, the system can respond with a weakened immune system or an alteration of the normal bacterial flora, so in turn, can create an overgrowth of yeast. It is this "proliferation" of yeast that can quickly become life threatening, as it overcomes the good bacteria in the body. Once this happens it becomes a friendly (good) to a pathogen (harmful) in the body, which quickly can become systemic (whole body) if not recognized and treated. In other words: what is good and beneficial normally can work against bird when something triggers a surprise / overgrowth.

A veterinarian can perform a Gram stain or culture to see if there budding yeast in the stool or crops. A Gram stain can be done while in the vet's office and the results are available quickly in a short period of time. The diagnosis and treatment can be started from this. A culture is a diagnosis more intense, and often sent to a lab. If you looked at the report of the culture that will be very surprised by the amount of bacteria that include, in addition to yeast! What the veterinarian determines in the report are the levels above normal for the particular species of bird that are grown. Most reports of culture also has another section that lists drugs recommended that a bird is sensitive (in force) and resistant (ineffective) to. You may request copies of the reports of the culture. I found the culture reports are very informative learning tool in the study of various bacteria in poultry. I used the reports of research and study of each agency to learn how to recognize symptoms and how to correct or treat. I will also make notes on each individual report, such as age, visible symptoms, treatment effectiveness and outcomes, and if does not work,. "Why" Often our efforts and veterans of the prescribed treatments do not simply because the problem was so advanced that became systemic, meaning it has spread throughout the body / organs through the bloodstream. In other words, recognized the symptoms too late. "Too late" is something that can be changed. Unfortunately, experience is the best teacher. Sometimes it takes several deaths before they learn to detect a visible problem in development.

The following information is from my personal observations raise several thousand cockatiel babies in the nest 16 years. Over the years I've found different courses to treat only the parents, the flock of treating all the birds before their creation, only for the yeast to raise his ugly head and cause problems and losses in the nest. In the mid '90 's was a common practice for veterinarians recommend treatment or clutch entire herd, when there were problems with fungi. In retrospect, this was only a temporary solution to a continuing problem. In the research I had learned that yeast, like bacteria develop resistance continues with "preventive or prophylactic" treatments. When this happens, treatment / medication you normally work is less effective, so a stronger medication / treatment must be used. Preventive treatments only compounds the dilemma of yeast, rather than resolving it.

It was through the observation that nothing I learned that contribute to stress the girl was the stimulus to induce an overgrowth of yeast. Stress is anything that can directly or indirectly cause an internal change or a lowered immune response to the girl. Once I heard this I also realized that the yeast was specific 'to' baby on the clutch instead of the entire clutch. It also was not communicable between clutch mates. And it was rare for the baby to contract directly with the leaven of the parents. Therefore, only the girl with the problem needs to be treated well or cause stress to the girl in particular solved.

Is my cockatile male or female

While are young cockatiels the male and female look the same way and it is difficult to decipher their sex until they have undergone their first molt about six to nine months old. Only then will the adult coloring show.

Normal gray parrots are easy to sex once the adult plumage is through. You will notice that the color is defined with the man who has a bright yellow face, while the female has a gray face with traces of pale yellow. The male's body is dark gray, but it seems that the female is duller, with almost a brown tint to gray. In addition, until their first moult both sexes restriction patterns at the bottom of its tail feathers. After the moult the feathers of the male's tail is gray solid, without restriction, but she will still modeling.

This is easily applied to the normal gray parrots, but other color varieties such as albino, cinnamon, lutino, pearls and pieds are more difficult to sex.

Meanwhile, the use of the road map below to assist in determining the sex of other varieties:

 • Males have a great vocal ability and a long whistle
 • Females are generally quite calm
 • Males whistle and call, while females tend to scream
 • Females are often more prone to hiss and bite
 • In your case, males have slightly darker colors or brighter spots on the face and orange cheek
 • Any sign of restriction, marks or stains on the underside of the tail feathers or wings when spread indicates a female (you may need to keep your cockatiel to bright light to see any brand)
 • Males tend to show off - slightly raised wings, stick your chest out and parade and strut, calling at
 at the same time
 • Place a mirror in front of your cockatoo. How do you react?
Normally, male will be fascinated and the mirror must keep their attention for quite some time while he performs in front of it. Female tends to lose interest quickly.

Build a Bluebird Birdhouse

Many people enjoy watching birds. Many people enjoy watching birds at their home, as it is very convenient. One of the many birds that are on the top of the list as being one of the most popular is the bluebird. One of the reasons that these types of birds are the most popular is that they are considered a rare type of bird. Seeing that this considered a rare type of bird, many people create a sanctuary for bluebirds in their yard in order to invite them into the yard. One of the ways that you can create a haven for bluebirds is to create a bluebird birdhouse.
Many people may not realize that a standard birdhouse would not suit a bluebird. However, it is a known fact that bluebirds are extremely particular when it comes to certain things. A birdhouse is one of those things. When a person creates a standard birdhouse, many species may frequent the dwelling. Bluebirds are not a very social species of bird when it comes to mingling with other types of birds. A bluebird birdhouse is based on the principles of their migrating habits, as well as the nesting habits. In order to build an effective bluebird birdhouse, it is important that you understand the characteristics that the bluebird has in these areas.
When you decide to build a bluebird birdhouse, it is very important that you understand the types of bluebirds that are native to the United States. There are eastern bluebirds, mountain bluebirds, and western bluebirds. Once you have learned the three types of bluebirds that are native to the United States, you can then begin to research them and their characteristics. This will help you to better understand what they prefer and do not prefer.
When you build a bluebird birdhouse, you should make one that is square or one with a slope and even a roof that is very steep. It is very important to make sure that the bluebird can have some form of escape when it comes to the various weather conditions. This will help them to remain comfortable, especially when they are nesting. Once the bluebird birdhouse is constructed, you should keep an eye on it to ensure that no other types of birds are trying to overtake it and that no various items have lingered into the birdhouse that may result in the bluebirds not wanting to come around it.
Building a bluebird birdhouse can be very fun and rewarding. This is especially true if you are an avid birdwatcher and enjoy the rarity of seeing the bluebird. It is important to consider the preferences of the bluebird in order to build an effective bluebird birdhouse. If you research bluebirds thoroughly, you are sure to understand their demeanor, and build a nice bluebird birdhouse. Once you construct and place your bluebird birdhouse, you are sure to see many bluebirds in your yard.

Birdhouse Kits

Picking up a new hobby can be very exciting. There are numerous hobbies that a person can choose from when seeking new hobbies. One of the many new hobbies that people can choose from is building birdhouses. This type of hobby is appropriate for the person who enjoys watching birds and birds in general. This can be a very rewarding experience. If you construct the proper birdhouse, you will find that you can house a variety of birds and make the most of your new hobby. Birds are very attracted to birdhouses because it offers them the comfort and protection that they seek without having to return to their nest consistently.
Many people choose to construct birdhouses from scratch. Other people find that constructing birdhouses through the means of a birdhouse kit is more appropriate. There are many benefits to Using birdhouse kits. Building a birdhouse using a birdhouse kit will allow the experience on how to construct this type of structure. It will allow you the opportunity to learn the steps, tools, and supplies that are needed to construct a birdhouse. When you use a birdhouse kit, you can still choose to customize the structure. Many people do not work with birdhouse kits because they feel that they will not be able to customize their birdhouse, but this is not accurate at all.
When you decide to purchase a birdhouse kit, you should study the birds that are in your region. It is important to know what kind of birds are in your area to ensure that you are able to choose a birdhouse kit that suits the preferences of the birds in that area. There are many different types of birdhouse kits that you can select from, and each type of birdhouse is based on a particular type of bird. If you are trying to attract hummingbirds, and you buy a birdhouse kit that is designed for bluebirds, you may not be successful.
When you purchase a birdhouse kit, you should decide on whether you should get one that will have many compartments, or just a single compartment. While many birds are quite social, and do not mind sharing a single compartment birdhouse, there are many birds that prefer to have their own living area. You should research the bird that you are trying to attract to see which they prefer. This is a very important step when it comes to choosing the appropriate birdhouse kit.
When selecting a birdhouse kit, you should select a kit based on your level of expertise. There are many birdhouse kits that you can purchase based on if you are a beginner, or an expert. You should ensure that you select the appropriate birdhouse kit based on your skill. If you select a birdhouse kit that is above or below your level of expertise, you are sure to have more fun throwing the birdhouse kit away than constructing the birdhouse kit.
